Promotion of Health Management

What health means to Tokai Rika

Since FY 2024, we have included a health policy in our annual company-wide policy.
We believe that the health of our employees and their families is the most important factor for us to continue to take on various challenges, create products that delight our customers, and contribute to the creation of an abundant society.
If our employees are healthy and can continue to work with a smile and vitality, they and their families will be happy, and we will be able to contribute to the local community.
As the population ages, we aim to be a company where employees can continue to work with a smile and vitality, and we will continue to support all of our employees so that they can actively work toward their physical and mental health.

Declaration of health

In order to realize smiles and happiness of our employees, we have sent out the Tokai Rika Group Health Declaration by the President and are promoting efforts to achieve health management.

Tokai Rika Group Health Declaration
To be a company full of smiles

Mental and physical health is the wellspring of safe and secure work and is important for employees and their families to live happily.
In addition, as the era of 100-year life expectancy is fast approaching, we believe that it is important for people to work with health and vitality even in their old age.
In order to be a company that loves its customers, the community, and its employees and their families, we declare that we will work to create a company where employees can work with a smile and vitality.

Health policy

1. Company policy and health policy

Since FY 2024, we have included a health policy in our company-wide annual policy, and we are making company-wide efforts to address critical health issues.

Our health policy aims to establish a company-wide support system that helps every employee proactively manage their own health so that, as stated in President Ninoyu’s Health Declaration, they can work with health and vitality.

2. Health promotion framework

The President serves as the “health management promotion manager,” and the Safety & Health Promotion Department of the Human Resources Division and each district health promotion center play a central role in health promotion activities.

Health management targets

We believe it is necessary to reduce losses due to health risks so that each employee can maximize their abilities and improve the productivity of the company as a whole. Therefore, we have set health management targets for 2030.
In addition to the improvement of business performance indicators, we have set the decrease in the percentage of obese persons as one of our health monitoring indicators, since obesity has a large correlation with lifestyle habits and is a risk factor for various diseases.

Health management objectives and strategy map

Aiming to create an organization in which each employee can continue to work vigorously and in good mental and physical health, we are developing a strategy map for health management.
We are focusing on measures aimed at improving lifestyle habits that are highly correlated with health risks as a priority until 2025.

Achieving the 2025 targets and 2030 Vision

Health monitoring indicators (KPIs) and results

Health-related KPIs are verified by category.
Health behavior change indicators are indicators that reflect the status of lifestyle improvement,
Health monitoring indicators are monitoring indicators based on the belief that lifestyle improvements will lead to improvements in health checkup results and working environments.

Key initiatives

Revised our health checkup system and established standards on following up health checkups

We expanded our health checkup system in FY 2025 to enable early detection, across different age groups, of a wide range of diseases with high incidence risks.
This system allows employees to receive the following health checkups at no cost.

Services covered
  • Milestone health screening (Every five years for ages 35 and up)
More thorough than a standard health screening
  • Cerebrovascular exam (Every five years for ages 46 and up)
Head MRI and MRA, neck ultrasound or MRA
  • In-house health checkup
Screens additional items for diseases with increased risk by age group
  • Cancer screening
In-house screening of cancer, which has a proven effect in reducing mortality rates

A health checkup is not simply an exam to undergo, but a vital opportunity to understand one’s current health status and detect areas that must be addressed.
We establish management standards based on health checkup results so each employee can review their results and independently manage their health. We also have a follow-up system for those not adequately managing their health.

We support the improvement of lifestyle habits and focus on activities aimed at improving health behavior change indicators.

Employees spend much of their day, and much of their life, at the company.
Aiming to create a company and workplaces where employees can naturally improve their health, we are proactively implementing measures to improve environments and support lifestyle improvements.

1. Activities to improve body composition using InBody

InBody body composition analyzers have been installed in all plants since FY 2023.
We have held an event called “TR InBody Challenge” since FY 2023 to support employees working to improve their results.

The event will be held again in 2024! 5045 people have already been measured for the first time.
The workplace category was changed to an entry system this year.
Ninety-eight workplaces have entered and are actively engaged in improvement activities on a workplace-by-workplace basis.

Health promotion points were awarded to those whose measurement results improved in the final measurement months of October and November.

The department with the highest number of workplace-based improvers was also awarded!

2. Monthly health habit questionnaires and health videos

We conduct monthly health habit questionnaires with the aim of keeping people aware of their healthy habits.
We check the status of diet, exercise, sleep, alcohol consumption, and tobacco consumption, as well as stress and presenteeism in the health behavior change indicators.

We know that the more people practice the five lifestyle habits, the fewer we find the lifestyle-related diseases associated with the habits during health checkups. We strive to foster a work environment that encourages employees to continue practicing healthy lifestyle habits.

3. Initiatives that place importance on walking (walking events, walking posture measurements, encouraging the use of stairs)

Walking is a fundamental and important part of health promotion, which is connected to various daily activities.
Since this fiscal year, we have been supporting health promotion through walking by holding “Walking Posture Measurement Hour” to help people walk effectively with the correct posture.
In addition, we hold walking events every year to increase opportunities to actively walk throughout the workplace.

Walking events

Using a smartphone app, we conduct walking events in which workplace-based teams are organized to compete in terms of the number of steps they take.
The event also offers benefits for individual participation, spreading awareness of the importance of healthy walking habits throughout the company.

2023 2024

Encouraging the use of stairs

On the main stairways of the company’s premises, we have attached slogan signs that recommend calorie burning and stairway use.
This is part of our efforts to create an environment that encourages employees to become more health-conscious on the stairs they use every day and to improve their health in the course of their life working at the company.

4. Providing the TR Healthy Menu in the cafeterias of all plants

The TR Healthy Menu is offered in the cafeterias of all of our plants.
This menu helps raise awareness about healthy and well-balanced diets through our daily meals.
During Sanitation Month in October, the TR Healthy Menu is offered at a 25% discount, and further promotion of the program is also underway.

5. Support measure for smoking cessation

From April 2021, we have banned smoking throughout the premises to prevent unwanted second-hand smoking within the company.
In addition, in order to reduce the smoking rate, which is one of the health behavior change indicators, a support program for smoking cessation was introduced this fiscal year, and the “Quit Smoking Challenge,” a company-wide program to support those who try to quit smoking, was launched.

Outline of the Program
Up to four support persons per participant to help them quit smoking!
All participants receive health improvement points for achieving 3 months smoke-free!
Participation
FY 2024: 15 participants + 41 support persons

6. Various figures from health management initiatives

Periodic health checkups are not only for discovering any current health abnormalities, but also for considering the risk of future diseases.
We assist our employees to carefully look over their checkup results and improve their lifestyles. For early risk detection and treatment of cancer, employees can receive various cancer examinations on company premises during working hours.
We also provide in-house checkups for cancers specific to women and maintain an environment in which female employees can receive health checkups with peace of mind.

To encourage communication and active health promotion among all workplace employees, we hold many other health events every year, such as a relay marathon between departments and the union-sponsored Rikatan Olympics.
We will continue to promote health management initiatives to create a system that allows employees to maintain healthy lifestyles naturally when they come to the company, and to support each employee in improving their own health so that they can continue to work with a smile and vitality.
