SBT Validation

Our FY 2030 targets for greenhouse gas emissions have been recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as science-based targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway.1 The validated FY 2030 targets use FY 2023 as the base year, calling for a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions,2,3 and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions.4 These targets are also consistent with the Scope 1 and 2 target set in our Carbon-neutral Strategy 2030, which uses FY 2013 levels as the baseline.

Scope Base year FY 2030 target SBT standard
Scope 1 and 2
(consolidated)
FY 2023 50% reduction 42% reduction or more
Scope 3
(consolidated)
FY 2023 25% reduction 25% reduction or more
Scope 1 and 2 reduction scenarios
  • 1 Targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are set at the necessary level, based on scientific evidence, to limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
  • 2 Greenhouse gases directly emitted from the company’s fuel use and industrial processes.
  • 3 Greenhouse gases indirectly emitted from the company’s use of electricity and heat supplied by other companies.
  • 4 Greenhouse gas emissions from other companies related to our business activities.
