SBT Validation
Our FY 2030 targets for greenhouse gas emissions have been recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as science-based targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway.1 The validated FY 2030 targets use FY 2023 as the base year, calling for a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions,2,3 and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions.4 These targets are also consistent with the Scope 1 and 2 target set in our Carbon-neutral Strategy 2030, which uses FY 2013 levels as the baseline.
| Scope | Base year | FY 2030 target | SBT standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 and 2 (consolidated) |
FY 2023 | 50% reduction | 42% reduction or more |
| Scope 3 (consolidated) |
FY 2023 | 25% reduction | 25% reduction or more |
- 1 Targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are set at the necessary level, based on scientific evidence, to limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
- 2 Greenhouse gases directly emitted from the company’s fuel use and industrial processes.
- 3 Greenhouse gases indirectly emitted from the company’s use of electricity and heat supplied by other companies.
- 4 Greenhouse gas emissions from other companies related to our business activities.
