Aichi, April 21, 2003 - Tokai Rika Co., Ltd., announced today that it has recently reduced the amount of industrial waste for landfill to the zero emission level*1 at all five of its production facilities in Japan. The goal of zero emission was achieved one year ahead of the original date target of March 2004.
Tokai Rika has been aggressively pursuing its 3R activities-Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle-to eliminate the industrial wastes generated from its production processes. Wastes are being thoroughly sorted out and collected for different uses according to the kind of material. Recycling activities have contributed significantly to attaining the goal of zero emission: Plastics for thermal energy generation; plating sludge for road base material; and pieces incorporating both metal and plastics are broken down by material and recycled separately.
Tokai Rika and its group companies both in Japan and overseas continue to implement environmental management activities to further eliminate industrial waste on a consolidated basis.
NOTES
*1.Tokai Rika defines the zero emission level as the reduction of waste by more than 95% of the waste volume recorded during fiscal year ended March 31, 1996.
